25th Annual Schnucks Holiday Classic
Saturday December 27TH, Monday, December 29TH, and Tuesday, December 30TH, 2008
Collinsville picked up their second win of the season over Urbana. The Kahoks cruised to 26-9 halftime lead. Austin nailed five three pointers and had a total of 17 points. Robbie Fernandez scored 9 points all in the second half. Jamal Watson-Daniels was a spark off the bench with 6 points and 3 assists. Erik Shannahan had 6 steals for the Kahoks The Tigers leading scorer was Charles Glass with 13 points.
Althoff holds on against Highland
Althoff was got balanced scoring by Alex Mumphard with 13 points, Devin Griffin 12 points, Carson Sonnenberg 11 points as the Crusaders knocked of the Bulldogs. Highland was led by Michael Buehne and Brent Kuper with 17 points each
Walton survives upset bid by MacArthur
Number 1 seed Walton Raiders got all the could handle from the Generals. Both teams traded baskets all night matching score for score. The game started dicey as two MacArthur players were ejected for leaving the bench during an incident on the court. MacArthur led 76-71 in the closing before Walton came. The Generals missed a three pointer at the buzzer that would have won the game. Walton was led in scoring Glen Rice with 23 points and Ryan Harrow with 27 points. MacArthur's Kendall Kinnison had 30 points and Monte Wilson had 23 points.
Glenwood set shooting record against Granite City
Glenwood hit 80 percent of its shot (8 for 10) and set a new tournament record in 60-36 win over Granite City. Glenwood set in the 30 point mercy rule late in the fourth quarter to beat the young Warriors squad. Zack Zimmerman scored 23 points and Cody Traina put 15 for the Titans. Granite City was led in scoring Justin Ike with 9 points.
Lincoln cruises past Eisenhower
The Lincoln Railers come out shooting knocking down 10 of 15 three pointers. Ben Brackney put in 6 three pointers and 20 first half points for the Railers, who lead 42-18 and never looked back. Brackney was top point man for Lincoln follwed by Nathaniel Smith with 13 points and Kyle Young with 12 points. Eisenhower leading scorer was Caleb Davis with 16 points of the bench.
Oakville upsets No. 3 Springfield

Belleville East survives bout with Riverview Gardens 79-76
Riverview
scored 34 points in the fourth quarter but still didn't have enough to pull
out the come from behind victory. Both teams combined for 53 fouls (31
Riverview, 22 Belleville East) in what seemed to be more of a rugby contest
then a basketball game. The game was tied at 32-32 at the half.
Belleville East quickly took control in the second half building a 12-point
lead on a pair of free throws by C. J. Goldthree. The rest of the
second half was spent by both teams shooting free throws and Riverview
trying to play catch-up. Riverview was led in scoring by Kelton Ramsey
with 25 points. Belleville East's big man was Tramall Ferguson with 19
points.
Madison outguns Mount Zion 74-71
Despite
a 36 point effort by Colby Long, the No. 2 seeded Braves were not able to
defeat Madison. Playing without Colby's twin brother Caleb, the Braves were
tied with Madison after one quarter (12-12). Mount Zion trailed
28-24 at halftime. Mount Zion got to within one point 47-46 early in the
fourth quarter but began slipping away. The Braves also got 20 points
for Alex Birge. Mount Zion drops to the losers 5th place consolation
bracket. The Trojans got 27 points from Xavier Williams and 24
from Kendal Echols.
Althoff spoils Urbana's return to the Classic 78-39
Urbana's
first game in the Holiday Classic in more then a decade was not a happy one.
Althoff invoked the thirty point rule on the Tigers in the fourth quarter.
The Crusaders blew the game open on a 11-0 run to start the game.
Althoff increased its lead to 25 at the half (48-23). The Crusaders
leading point man was Carson Sonnenberg with 13 and Urbana was led in
scoring with Simmeon Simmons with 11.
Highland tops host Kahoks 50-40
Highland
proved to not be gracious guests as they knocked the Kahoks into the loser
bracket. The Bulldogs led the game from the opening tip to the final
buzzer. The Kahoks got to within three points (40-37) but never got
the lead. Highland was led in scoring by Brent Kuper with 16 points
and Collinsville was led in scoring by Robbie Fernandez with 20 points.
Top seeded Walton downs Glenwood 64-50
Glenwood
and Walton exchanged the lead numerous times during the first half. A pair
of three pointers by Ryan Harrow and Glen Rice Jr. gave the Raiders the lead
for good going into halftime. Walton started the second half on 6-0
run and Glenwood was never able to get eight points the rest of the game.
Walton was led in scoring by Harrow with 26 point and Noah Adams led the
Titans in scoring with 18 points.
MacArthur 66, Granite City 23
MacArthur
dominated the Warriors holding a 43-19 lead at the half. The Generals held
the Warriors to four second half points and put in the running clock in the
fourth quarter. MacArthur was led in scoring by Monte Wilson with 19 points
and Kendall Kinnson with 12 points.
Lincoln 68, Riverview Gardens 59
Jordan Nelson scored 22 points and Kyle Young chipped in 18 points for the Railers. The Railers led from the second quarter on but Riverview cut the led to one several times in the fourth quarter before Lincoln pulled away in the final 4 minutes. Riverview was led in scoring by Kelton Ramsey with 18 points, all in the second half.
Holiday Classic Preview
Walton
High School of Marietta, GA is top seed for the 25th Annual Schnucks Holiday
Classic. The Raiders feature two Atlantic Coast Conference signees. They are
Glen Rice, Jr., son former NBA play Glen Rice, and Ryan Harrow. Rice a 6'5
senior has signed with Georgia Tech and Harrow a 6'0 junior has signed with
